Shark Week & Sharknado Cupcakes

We love Shark Week....and We really liked the super ridicules movie Sharknaodo.  For Shark Week 2013, we made cupcakes for desert to start off the week with a delicious bang...

No for both cupcake I used Chocolate Cake Mix.
For the icing.  I used this recipe and added blue food coloring..

Now for the shark fin and sharknado...I used Wilton white Chocolate.  I tried different colors...but I just decided to do white...the grey just isn't appetizing...

To melt the chocolate.  I take my tea pot  and heat water.  I then have a set of nesting bowls that I use...the small one at the bottom full of hot water then I top place the larger bowl to keep the chocolate chips submerged in the water for an easy melt...

To make the shark fin....either free hand your shark fin on a sheet of paper or print out shark fins...I freehanded mine because it was just for fun for my family...

1.  Once you have made your templates (by the way it can be anything????? then place your template under a sheet of wax paper and trace it with your squeeze bottle...Not the chocolate isn't very hot so it is perfect if your kids want to make their own...

2.  Allow to cool I like to refrigerate mine.  then just Peel of the page and top on your cupcakes.

SHARKnado Cupcakes

for the sharknado cupcakes I just free-handed a swirly tornado shape...make the lines as thick as you can...I had a few break...I then used some blue fish in the swirl before it cooled as my sharks.  The fish were just in the cake decorating isle at the supermarket.  I really looked for Sharks..but I think these work...My kids loved them and they were super fun...

Banana Puddin Cake

It is hard to imagine but my baby just turned one.  I wanted to make him a cake myself.  It isn't gluetin free, and it isn't healthy and organic..it is full of all the stuff that is not trendy to eat............
.but it was GOOD.

I love those beautiful cakes.  BUT They usually taste like crap...I would rather something be not so pretty but just great to eat...This is not my recipe it has been out for quite sometime. And there are hundreds of recipes out there.

Banana Puddin POKE cake.
INGREDIANTS.
1.  French Vanilla Cake MIX...(must use this flavor)
2.  Banana Cream Pudding Mix
3.  Whipped Cream
4.  Nilla Wafers
5.  REAL banana's

DON'T use the off brand.  Normally it isn't a big deal...but I think name brand is best for baking

To COOK:
1.  Bake your cake, follow the instructions on the back of the box...Allow the cake to cool.
2.  Mix the pudding, follow the package instructions.  Later...when the cake is cool...
3.  Poke holes in the cake with the back of a wooden spoon or something of similar size.  Don't poke the holes all the way down just a quarter of the way in the cake...
4.  Now top the cake inside the pan with pudding...Use a small spoon to get the pudding in the holes...

5.  Now top with the whipped cream

Look how pretty it is from the side.... Regenerate...it is great Cold....top with fresh bananas and nilla wafers.

This works for cupcakes as well...My little one ate it all gone...

100th day of School

Today was my daughters 100th day of school.  Her project was to count 100 items out and bring them to school.  Many kids counting out cheerios or fruit cereal and glue them on poster board.

I couldn't believe I found 100 buttons and I had plenty left to make more if I wanted...I then sewed them on a plain shirt.  My daughter counted the buttons. I used embroidery floss instead of thread to make sure the button held on.  She wore a undershirt so the knots on the shirt didn't bother her.

Game of Thrones Shadow Boxes

I was scrolling on etsy and I saw the coolest thing.  Check out these GAME OF THRONE SHADOW BOXES.  I really like them and I had to share.  This is really a craft.  Not something printed off of a computer and glued on another thing and called a craft.  Finally something refreshing .  You can find the etsy shop here.  I can't wait until MARCH 31,2013.  I have lots of half way finished crafts I will be posting soon thanks for sticking with me.

New Years Resolutions

I am not a "traditional person" I hate being guilted into something for the sake of tradition.  I want to do something because I enjoy it or it is the right thing.  I never make New Years Resolutions, BUT this year I thought I would make one.

If you read my blog you know I LOVE to cook.  For Christmas I was given a Ninja.  I was so excited.  I thought of all of the soups and sauces I could make.  I also just had a baby so homemade food made easy.  I opened the box and the included recipie book was all about Smoothies.

So to the point...I made a New Years resolution to STOP skipping breakfast and lunch.  Seems simple but I never eat breakfast or lunch.  It is like my system is hard wired not to do so.  In high school my parents didn't MAKE ME eat breakfast (but I do with my kids) and I never really ate lunch at school, because YUCK.(now they have more options)  Then came college and work...I worked full time while in college and I never had the time to sit down and have a meal.  Then kids...and you get the idea...by the time you feed them they have made a mess and meal time is finished and you didn't get a chance to sit down, because now you are stuck cleaning.  Working as a graphic designer with an inbox that never seemed empty, I rarely took a lunch and when I did it was not very healthy ..it was fast and convent

I decided to make smoothies for my breakfast and lunch.  So far I have NO complaints.  It works really well for me.  It tastes good.  Here is my basic recipe ..Yummy every time.

EQUAL parts of...
fresh or froozen fruit. (doesn't mattaer which one)
Yogurt ( purchased a big tub of plain vanilla yogurt from ALDI.  It is cheaper and lasts longer)
(if you use fresh fruit use equal ice amounts)
and a splash of Sierra Mist natural

I have used mostly fresh fruit.  1 cup of fresh blueberries, 1 cup of yogurt, 1 cup of ice, and added those to the blender using the single serve cup.  I then poured. myself and 8oz glass and added just a splash of Sierra Mist.  I then put the rest in the fridge for lunch.  AGAIN Yummy.

It doesn't matter what fruit you use...this works for everything.  For me this is not about loosing weight.  It is about being healthy. I know it can't be good for me to live so many years without eating breakfast and lunch.

Enjoy...Do you skip meals?  Have you made your own smoothies?  How is it working out for you?

The spotlight submissions, along with the random winner, will be announced on Tuesday January 8th and will receive a special badge for their blogs.

Here's my project for this week's challenge:
I am deterimined to only use the supplies that I have and not to purchase anything more.  You have seen my craft cabinet RIGHT?  I used all scraps.  The white paper is a textured 12x12 sheet.  The title is silver brad letters.  YEA I had the letters to spell months.  and the 4 is a chip board letter I covered with the left over stripe paper.  NOW I used some embroidery floss and made the title and swirls.  It was alot of work.  But it is SWEET....I used a pencil and lightly wrote what I wanted by hand.  It would have been cleaner if I had done it by hand but....whatever.  I then used a needle and pierced the paper and then went back and erased the lines.   This made it easy to stitch on my page.  I couldn't have purchased letters that filled the page as well as my hand stitching.  Now that I have done this I will use this more often.  Now that I know how.  The first time is the hardest.  If you try this let me know...I want to see.
